Bawaslu Asks DKPP To Fire Members Of Bawaslu Puncak Jaya

JAKARTA - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) asked the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) to dismiss members of the Bawaslu of Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of Bawaslu, Rahmat Bagja, as a complainant in the trial for the examination of alleged violations of the Election Organizer Code of Ethics (KEPP) case number 23-PKE-DKPP/I/2024.

Meanwhile, the defendant was Elion Wonda, who served as a member of the Bawaslu of Puncak Jaya Regency.

"The complainants asked the Election Organizers Honorary Council based on their authority to decide the following matters; one, accept and grant the complaints filed by the complainants in its entirety. Two, stated that the defendant was proven to no longer meet the requirements as a member of the Puncak Jaya Regency Bawaslu 2023-2028," said Bagja, at the DKPP building, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 18.

Bawaslu meminta kepada DKPP untuk memberikan sanksi pemberhentian tetap kepada teradu sesuai dengan ketentuan peraturan perundang-undangan berhitung sejak keputusan dibacakan.

"If the Honorary Council of Election Organizers has another opinion, please give the fairest decision, ex aequo et bono. Thus, Your Honor, which we can convey to Your Majesty, it is with a heavy heart that we submit our own request for dismissal of Bawaslu members of Puncak Jaya Regency, which we have implemented in 2023," he said.

Bawaslu during the trial at DKPP explained that the defendant had passed the registration selection for candidates for Bawaslu members in Puncak Jaya Regency 2023-2028, and was sworn in on August 19, 2023.

Bawaslu kemudian mengetahui laporan atau tanggapan masyarakat terhadap teradu merupakan pengurus partai politik dan tidak lagi memenuhi syarat sebagai calon anggota Bawaslu Kabupaten Puncak Jaya.

"Because when registering, the person concerned did not meet the requirements to resign for at least five years at the time of registration as a candidate," he explained.

Bawaslu has asked the Bawaslu of Central Papua Province to clarify the public's report.

Bagja explained that the clarification was made on September 16, 2023, live and virtual through the teleconference application, Zoom. The clarification was attended by the chairman and members of the Central Papua Bawaslu, defendants, and representatives of the Human Resources and General Bureau of the Secretariat General Bawaslu.

"That in the clarification process, it was found that the defendant was once registered as the administrator of the Bulan Bintang Party in Puncak Jaya Regency until December 30, 2019, in accordance with the Decree of the DPC of the Crescent Star Party," said Bagja.

Therefore, he continued, based on the deepening and burial of the findings and facts and documents attached by the defendant, the defendant was declared ineligible as a candidate for Bawaslu member of Puncak Jaya Regency.

"Because when registering, he did not meet the requirements to resign from his political party membership for at least five years when registering as a candidate," he said.
