JAKARTA - Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD), La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, reminded the public to be careful using online money loan services (pinjol). Many loan services are not licensed by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

"The convenience provided is a mode. They will then ensnare their users by all means, such as high daily interest rates, threats, intimidation, harassment, and even leaking of customer data," La Nyalla told reporters, Tuesday, March 2.

Even if you have to borrow online, the senator from East Java hopes that the public can first check the online fintech loan in question to the OJK.

"As much as possible, online loans should be avoided. However, if you have to borrow, make sure the application is registered and has OJK's permission. Please check through the OJK website, the list is there," he appealed.

The former chairman of the East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry hopes that there will be firm action from the government so that this online lending mode does not continue to develop in the field.

"The blocking of websites and applications must be carried out. The perpetrators must also be prosecuted. Because the alleged violations they have committed are very real. We also hope that illegal online loan fintech activities can be eradicated," he said.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) previously froze as many as 51 online fintech loans that were declared without permission, aka illegal. So that the total online loan service companies that were declared illegal have reached more than 3,000. To be precise, from 2018 to February 2021, a total of OJK had closed 3,107 illegal online fintechs.
