Residents Play Firecrackers During Ramadan, East Jakarta Police Chief,: There Is A Criminal Threat

East Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Nicolas Ary Lilipaly forbade residents to play firecrackers during Ramadan 1445 Hijri because it could cause fires in residential areas.

Police also said that firecrackers with high explosive power can be categorized as explosives and there are severe legal sanctions.

"There is a criminal threat for the perpetrators who play with firecrackers. The criminal threat is based on the explosive power caused by the firecrackers," he said when confirmed, Sunday, March 17.

So far, people who play firecrackers are usually charged with minor criminal acts (tipiring). However, due to the explosive power of firecrackers that cause fires, it can potentially be charged with criminal law articles.

Nicholas explained that firecrackers that have a large explosive power can also be categorized as dangerous explosives.

"But for the explosive power, it is also seen whether the explosive power is low, middle or high. Is it destructive or not," he said.

The East Jakarta Metro Police also carried out raids on firecrackers at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan in the Jatinegara area.

"We have conducted raids on firecrackers with four pilars including the Jatinegara sub-district. We did a raid which indicated a place to sell or supply firecrackers, but the results were nil," he said.

It is known that the Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto banned a number of community activities in advance and during Ramadan 1445 Hijri through the announcement number: mak/0/III/2024 on March 13, 2024.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi said the announcement was issued with the aim of maintaining security and public order in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya.

"To anticipate misused community activities so that they can disrupt public activities, it is forbidden to carry out a number of activities," he said.

Ade added that if activities were found such as those that had been prohibited, members of Polda Metro Jaya could take police action in accordance with the provisions of Article 212 of the Criminal Code, Article 216 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code and Article 218 of the Criminal Code.
