JAKARTA - Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said sending troops from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to Ukraine was at risk of causing the third World War to break out.

"I don't think NATO should enter Ukraine. This will be a mistake," Tajani said in Verona, North Italy, as reported by Anadolu, Friday, March 15.

"We need to help Ukraine defend itself, but enter the country to fight against Russia at risk of causing a Third World War," he said.

The Foreign Minister's remarks came after French President Emmanuel Macron came up with the idea of sending troops to defend Ukraine from its aggressors.

"Our army is good at doing what they do, protecting our ships in the Red Sea, or doing well what they do in Lebanon, Africa and Iraq. They are carriers of peace and freedom," said Tajani.

Tajani also commented on the ongoing war in Gaza, saying Italy should cooperate with moderate Muslim countries such as Egypt, to reach a peace agreement in the Gaza Strip.

"Egypt is an important actor in trying and creating agreements that will bring peace in Gaza. Egypt, like Qatar, is a fundamental country for the stability of this region and the Mediterranean," he said.
