The joint SAR team evacuated a pregnant woman who was about to give birth through the Batu Merah River in Oelatimo Village, East Kupang District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.

"Yes, that's right, the joint team evacuated pregnant women through the river with heavy river conditions," said Kupang Regency BPBD Implementing Ship Semmy Tinenty in Kupang, Wednesday, March 13, as reported by Antara.

This was conveyed in connection with a viral video that spread across a number of social media groups (medsos) showing a mother being evacuated using a rubber boat through a swift river flow.

The mother was placed in a rubber boat with mattresses and pillows on her back. Meanwhile, the joint team prevented the boat from being carried away and lifted it to the other side.

He said the mother who was pregnant and about to give birth was referred from the Pariti Health Center, Sulamu District, Kupang Regency to Dedari Hospital in Kupang City to get the best treatment.

He said the joint team was forced to evacuate in this way because the bridge that had previously been at the location had been broken since 2022. The bridge was broken when the Batu Merah river overflowed in December 2022.

He hopes that the bridge can be rebuilt so that during the rainy season like today residents can pass safely.
