Drivers Without Helmets And Safety Belts Dominate Enforcement During Safety Operations

Efforts to enforce the law or take action against violators of traffic rules continue to be carried out by the Central Java Police in the 2024 Candi Traffic Safety Operation. Although enforcement efforts are only 20 percent of the total activities that prioritize education, this step is still carried out as a deterrent effect on traffic rules violators.

"Action is an implementation of laws and regulations, including traffic laws. There is a process of law enforcement and sanctions for those who violate the law," said Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Kombes Satake Bayu Setianto, Tuesday, March 12.

Until the seventh day of the Safety Operation, added the Head of Public Relations, the Central Java Police had taken action or ticketed 18,076 traffic violators.

The most types of violations committed were motorcyclists without helmets that did not meet the SNI standard (Indonesian national standard) and drivers of four-wheeled vehicles or more who did not wear seat belts.

"Judging from the type of work, most of the violators who are ticketed are private. Meanwhile, judging from the age composition, the most violators are aged 21-25 years," he explained.

The Head of Public Relations said the trend of violations during operations tended to decline. This is evidenced by the number of vehicle users who are ticketed from day to day.

"For example, on the first day on March 4, 2024, the number of violators who were ticketed amounted to 3,817. This number was the largest during the operation. In the following days, the trend of fluctuating violations tends to decrease. On the seventh day on March 11, the number of violators who were ticketed amounted to 2,237. So there is a downward trend," he explained.

The Head of Humas appealed to the public to take advantage of this moment of safety operations to improve compliance with traffic law and ethics.

He also asked people who use motorized vehicles to cultivate tolerance for fellow road users, both fellow motorized vehicle users, pedaling and pedicab cyclists to pedestrians.

"We urge all motorized vehicle users to complete the documents and check vehicle readiness before leaving. Obey traffic rules and grow driving ethics and respect other road users," he concluded.
