BMKG Forecasts Extreme Weather For Central Java Until March 11

SEMARANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the potential for extreme weather in the Central Java region during the period from 9 to 11 March 2024.

Head of BMKG Meteorological Station Ahmad Yani Semarang Yoga Sambodo in Semarang Saturday said that the air activity of Munson Asia affected the wet air masses in the western and southern parts of Indonesia of the equator.

"This condition includes the Central Java region," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, March 9.

In addition, he said, the area of convergence and wind turns was also monitored around Central Java.

This condition, according to him, increases the potential for extreme weather in the form of rain with moderate to heavy intensity accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

A number of areas in Central Java that have the potential to be hit by extreme weather include Cilacap, Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, Magelang, Boyolali, Karanganyar, Sragen, Grobogan, Blora, Rembang, Pati, Kudus, Jepara, and Demak Regencies.

In addition, Semarang, Temanggung, Kendal, Batang, Tegal, Pekalongan, Brebes, and Magelang City, and Salatiga regencies.

Yoga appealed to the public to always be aware of disasters that arise due to extreme weather.

"People living in areas prone to hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, landslides, and strong winds are advised to be more vigilant," he said.
