Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari revealed that the reason for the re-voting (PSU) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, using the mobile ballot box (KSK) method and polling stations (TPS) was only held for one day on Sunday, March 10.

"With various kinds of considerations and inputs, especially from friends who know exactly the situation in Kuala Lumpur, then we decide to turn it into a PSU only on the same day, namely Sunday, March 10, 2024, for the TPS and KSK method," said Hasyim at the KPU RI Office, Jakarta, Friday, March 8, confiscated by Antara.

He explained that initially the implementation of the Kuala Lumpur PSU was planned for two days, namely the KSK method on Saturday 9 March and the TPS method on Sunday 10 March.

This also reflects on the experience of elections that have happened before.

"When voting in Kuala Lumpur first, there were KSK voting and voting stations for overseas polling stations (TPSLN) for two different days," he explained.

The KSK method is carried out in conjunction with the TPS because the location used is outside the center of Kuala Lumpur City.

According to Hasyim, at that location there are community settlements of Indonesian citizens and points that will be used as polling stations.

Hasyim said the KSK method had also been identified to be completed within one day so that the KSK vote was held on the same day as the TPS.

After the vote was finished, the KSK Team returned to the Office of the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) in Kuala Lumpur.

"Then it is demonstrated there and continued with the vote count together with the TPS method," added Hasyim.

Changes in the PSU schedule in Kuala Lumpur are contained in KPU Decree (SK) Number 299 of 2024 concerning Amendments to KPU Decree Number 280 of 2024 concerning Stages and Re-voting Schedules for Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur for the 2024 General Election.

The policy was signed by KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari on March 2, 2024.

The decree revised the date of the PSU in Kuala Lumpur which was originally planned to take place for two days, namely the KSK method on Saturday 9 March and the method of direct voting at TPS on Sunday 10 March.

"It is necessary to make adjustments to the provisions of the PSU stages and schedule for representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur," reads the decree.

Previously, member of the Indonesian KPU Idham Holik said his agency had obtained permission from the Malaysian Government to hold a re-voting (PSU) in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, March 10.

"God willing, on Sunday, March 10, 2024, the PSU in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia can be held," said Idham in Jakarta, Friday.

He explained that the permit was obtained after the KPU and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur met with officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Malaysian government also facilitates the licensing of places and security.

"Yes, the KPU team, including me, met with officials from the Malaysian foreign ministry," he said.

Idham said the PSU in Kuala Lumpur will be held at the Son of the World Trade Center (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur, Sunday (10/3).

"The plan for a foreign polling station (TPSLN) is at the Son of the World Trade Center," he said.

He said the selection of the PSU location in Kuala Lumpur was the same as the first implementation of the 2024 General Election.

The method that will be used has also been approved by the Malaysian government. Then regarding logistics, the KPU believes everything will be fulfilled.

"Allowed, 120 KSK points have been given permission and security will be facilitated later. God willing, all logistics will be met," said Idham.

The KPU has set a permanent overseas voter list (DPTLN) for re-voting in Kuala Lumpur reaching 62,217 people consisting of 42,372 TPSLN voters and 19,845 KSK voters.
