Chief Justice Of The Constitutional Court Suhartoyo Estimates There Will Be 2 Lawsuits Regarding Election Disputes

The chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) Suhartoyo estimates that two lawsuits will enter the institution related to disputes over the results of the general election (PHPU) or presidential election dispute (Pilpres) 2024. "This could be two cases, yes," said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo in Padang, quoted by ANTARA Friday, March 8. This was conveyed by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo after giving a public lecture at Andalas University, West Sumatra entitled "Toward Indonesia Gold 2024: Building a competent generation, integrity and national insight." Suhartoyo said that if later there were two cases of presidential election disputes that entered the green table, then it would be enough to take time and thought. "The few problems could be this (PHPU dispute) two cases," he said. Meanwhile, based on Article 50 of the Constitutional Court Regulation Number 4 of 2023 concerning acting in the case of the Presidential PHPU and Vice Presidential PHPU, it was decided within a grace period of 14 working days since the application was registered in the electronic constitution case registration book. "However, the Constitutional Court will still work optimally if there are two lawsuits that enter the judiciary institution. In addition, the Constitutional Court has also prepared or formed a task cluster to help resolve cases submitted by the applicants. "Yes, this is a routine task of five years, and we are used to those preparations," he said.

Although the institution he leads is only given 14 working days to decide the PHPU case, Judge Suhartoyo is optimistic that the Constitutional Court can complete it according to the provisions of the applicable regulations. "Even if later more than one case we will design how can it be sufficient and the handling is maximized," he said.
