Jakarta DPRD: Kapok Must Create, Perpetrators Of Bullying And Sexual Violence Must Be Given A Deterrent Effect

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta DPRD member Syarif assessed that perpetrators of bullying and sexual violence against children must be addressed by the DKI Provincial Government by imposing strict sanctions that can have a deterrent effect.

In handling cases of bullying or violence, Syarif assessed that firm witnesses needed to be done so that similar cases did not happen again.

"The closest solution is law improvement. The perpetrator must be deterred, there should be no peace, the parents are told to be accompanied by the perpetrator so that they can lose their head," said Syarif in Jakarta, Thursday, March 6.

Structural legal improvements that need to be arranged, according to Syarif, through legal approaches, regulations, and institutional arrangements. This must be shown with definite consistency.

The consistency can be shown with a definite performance in law enforcement. The goal is to restore the rights of victims as well as for the wider community," said Syarif.

On the one hand, the need for education related to the prohibition of bullying on parents with intensive communication.

"That's a cultural approach, don't let there be communication congestion. The deadlock in communication causes them to find their own way. So the culture must also be improved," he explained.

The DKI Provincial Government has formed a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence within the Education Unit in DKI Jakarta Province in 2024-2028.

This is stated in the Governor's Decree (Kepgub) number 159 of 2024 which was signed by Acting Governor (Pj) Heru Budi Hartono.

Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Taga Radja Gah, revealed that the task force was formed to resolve the problem of violence in the scope of the education unit.

On the one hand, the DKI Provincial Government is also reviewing the rules and regulations of all schools, especially regarding the handling and prevention of violence in the school environment.

"We are urging all schools to review the rules in schools related to the handling of perpetrators and victims of bullying," said Taga.

Furthermore, Taga admitted that studying the handling of violence in schools was needed to explore the role and responsibility of these cases.

"So if the case of bullying in schools is not only responsible for the perpetrators or victims of students, even schools and teachers must also be responsible if there is an omission from the incident," he added.
