President Jokowi Arrives In Jakarta After Attending The ASEAN-Australia Special Summit

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, at around 19.00 WIB, after attending the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit (KTT) in Melbourne, Australia.

Information from the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat was followed by PANTARA, informed that President Jokowi's arrival was welcomed by the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.

Previously, the Head of State and his entourage took off using the Indonesia-1 Presidential Aircraft via Melbourne Jet Base Airport, Australia at around 16.15 local time, Wednesday, March 6.

While attending the summit, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of cooperation between ASEAN and Australia in commemorating the 50th anniversary of partnership relations between the two parties which falls in 2024.

During a speech at the plenary session of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne, Jokowi said that ASEAN and Australia shared a shared responsibility to maintain stability, peace, and prosperity in the region.

President Jokowi stated that ASEAN is predicted to become the strength of the global economy and be ranked fourth in the world by 2040.

With a population of more than 650 million people, mostly young workers with high technology literacy, Jokowi emphasized the importance of Australia's support to maximize this potential.

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister (PM) Anthony Albanese invited ASEAN member countries leaders to change natural relations established through partnerships for 50 years into greater practical cooperation.

PM Albanese said Australia as the host of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, the celebration of the 50-year friendship between Australia and ASEAN became an opportunity to celebrate success, as well as affirm confidence in ASEAN centrality.
