JAKARTA - Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin said that holding the Adipura award was one of the affirmative mediums for efforts to realize the improvement of the quality of the sustainable environment in Indonesia.

"In the future, I hope that this program can continue to be enriched with various innovations so that it can adapt to the dynamics of the times and changes in policy direction," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 5.

The vice president also asked for the essence of the Adipura program to be maintained, namely to ensure the involvement of various elements.

"Especially, the commitment and performance of regional leaders to the broad participation of the community in realizing sustainable development," he said.

Furthermore, he said the problem of waste management is increasingly becoming a complex issue and continues to grow and has become one of the government's main concerns.

"By 2025, we set a National Policy and Strategy (Jakstranas) target for reducing waste by 30 percent and handling waste by 70 percent. In addition, the government is also targeting zero emission waste by 2050," he said.

The Vice President explained that one of the efforts to achieve this target is to encourage the implementation of an integrated waste management system from upstream to downstream.

"This integrated system not only requires implementative breakthroughs but also demands the optimal performance of local governments and community participation," he said.

He hopes that through the Adipura program there will be an increase in the commitment of regional government contributions and achievements both in carrying out the mandate of Law Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management and in an effort to meet the Jakstranas target of Management of Household Waste and Waste such as Household Waste.

On this occasion, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin also emphasized several things to encourage district/city governments to achieve several national targets such as the Jakstranas target in 2025 and zero zero emissions waste by 2050.

First, the involvement of the active role of the community. He said bad waste management can cause environmental problems at this time and in the future.

"Therefore, education and socialization are needed to change the paradigm and behavior of the community in handling waste that is better and more sustainable," he said.

Second, related to the waste management system. The vice president explained that waste management in Indonesia can no longer be carried out conventionally.

"I ask local governments to carry out integrated waste management activities from upstream to downstream, by applying circular economic principles and based on environmentally friendly technology," he said.

Finally, the improvement of the Adipura program. "The policy and program of Adipura to continue to be refined in accordance with the direction of policies, needs, and challenges that develop. Through this program, local governments can be encouraged to realize good environmental or government governance in the environment," he said.

On this occasion, the Vice President accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Situ Nurbaya also handed over the Adipura Kencana Award as the highest award for districts/cities that are able to show innovative and sustainable environmental management performance.

In this period, there were five regencies/cities that won Adipura Kencana, namely Balikpapan City, Surabaya City, Bontang City, Bitung City, and Ciamis Regency.
