Anas Urbaningrum Grieves, His Former Judge Artidjo Alkostar Dies

JAKARTA - The former chairman of the Democratic Party, Anas Urbaningrum (AU), also mourned the death of Artidjo Alkostar. Anas is currently serving a sentence for a corruption case at the Sukamiskin Prison, Bandung, West Java.

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. Has passed away, Mr. Artidjo Alkostar. May all his good deeds are accepted and his sins are forgiven by Allah. Lahu al-Fatihah. *Admin," said Anas Urbaningrum on his Twitter account @anasurbaningrum, Sunday, 28 February.

Anas said that the deceased was the chairman of the panel of cassation judges regarding the Hambalang case and other projects. At that time Artidjo doubled Anas's sentence.

"Mr. Artidjo Alkostar is Chairman of the Panel of Judges for Mr. AU. His verdict doubled the corporal punishment, subsidiary UP, and subsidiary fines. In total, it is higher than the prosecutor's demands. *Admin," said Anas.

However, Anas was not angry with that. "Is Mr. AU angry? His anger was carried out legally and proportionally, namely by submitting a Judicial Review. Personally, Mr. AU said he was not angry. In fact, it's a pity, because it means Mr. Artidjo does not understand the real legal case. *Admin," he said.

"Mr. AU once said: Hopefully one day he will have the opportunity to perform takziyah and pray when Mr. Artidjo dies. It turned out that Mr. AU physically could not perform takziyah. Praying can be done with unseen prayer. *Admin," he said.

Meanwhile, Artidjo Alkostar was born in Situbondo, May 22, 1948. He started his career since receiving a bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) in 1976.

Since then, he has dedicated himself to being a lecturer at the same university and being an advocate at the Yogyakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) from 1976-2000 until he was finally elected as Director of LBH Yogyakarta in 1989.

He also studied at the Law Faculty of Northwestern University Chicago and graduated in 2002. He continued his doctoral studies at Diponegoro University in Semarang and obtained his Doctor of Laws degree in 2007.

During his 14 years as Supreme Court Justice, Artidjo was also elected as Chairman of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court since 2014. Artijo retired from the Supreme Court on May 22, 2018 and has handled 19,483 cases throughout his career. In December 2019, Artidjo took an oath to become a member of the KPK Supervisory Board.
