The Reason Indonesian Citizens Must Bring 6.5 Million Cash To Thailand

YOGYAKARTA The public questioned the reason why Indonesian citizens were obliged to bring 6.5 million in cash to Thailand to enter the country. The cash is said to be proof that foreign tourists, including Indonesian citizens on vacation to Thailand, have the financial capacity to live in the country.

However, this rule is questioned because the form of money brought in the form of cash even though tourists can show financial forgiveness evidence in other ways such as credit card ownership.

The Thai government does require Foreign Citizens (WNA) who visit Thailand briefly by visa-free to show proof that these tourists have qualified financial capacity while in Thailand.

The amount of money brought by tourists from Indonesia itself is approximately Rp6,500,000 to Rp8,700,000 or if converted to Thai currency around 15,000-20,000 baths per person. This information was shared by the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok on their official Instagram social media account @Indonesianbangkok.

Regarding the obligation to bring 6.7 million money to Indonesian citizens who go to Bangkok, Minister Counsel/Coordinator of the Protocol and Consular Function of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Dewi Lestari, suspects that the reason Thai immigration authorities apply the regulation is a form of preventing trade cases, aka human trafficking, which often occurs in Indonesia.

Dewi said that there were Indonesian citizens who were victims of human trafficking. They are employed in the field of online scamming in other countries but transit through Thailand.

"Things like this are also aimed at preventing such conditions, in addition to preventing cases of Indonesian citizens who are displaced in Thailand with the aim of arriving as tourists," explained Dewi during an interview with RRI Pro 3. which was uploaded on Instagram of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Friday, February 23.

In the interview, Dewi also said that the regulation was in the Thai immigration law BE 2522 which was released in 1979. In Chapter 2 (Chapter 2) in the regulation regulates rules for entry and exit from the Thai region.

Especially in part 12 (Section 12), clearly regulates that foreigners who are included in certain criteria are not allowed to enter the country which is covered by the White Elephant Country.
