Surakarta City Government Promises Rice Prices To Drop Immediately

SOLO - The Surakarta City Government, Central Java, has confirmed that rice prices will fall in the near future following Bulog's steps to purchase from farmers.

"The latest development report from Bulog is related to the purchase of farmers' rice, the price of rice in the near future will decrease by approximately Rp. 400 per kg," said Head of the Surakarta City Trade Office Heru Sunardi as reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 26.

He said the decline occurred gradually and was not in the big nominal because some traders still had to spend the stock they bought when the price of rice was high.

"Traders will spend stock, which yesterday was already high. Hopefully later, when the purchase warehouse at high prices has run out, traders will definitely follow market prices," he said.

Thus, it is hoped that the price of rice will not only decrease by Rp. 400/kg but more than that. Meanwhile, he said, the Surakarta City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) has carried out market operations in every traditional market in Solo City.

"Hopefully, the price decline will gradually approach yesterday's figure, which is Rp. 15,000/kg," he said.

However, his party has not been able to predict when the rice will return to normal prices.

"Yes, first look at the progress. At least Bulog said the price would drop to Rp16,500-16,600 per kg in the near future," he said.

Regarding the Cheap Food Movement which is carried out in every kelurahan office in Solo City, according to him, it is an effort by the Surakarta City Government to ensure that people do not panic in the face of rising rice prices.

In addition, these efforts are to bring services closer to the community.

"This increase in rice prices can also be directly intervened to several markets and several scheduled urban villages," he said.
