North Korea Missile Tests, China-US Meetings The Korean Peninsula Situation

JAKARTA - Chinese and US diplomats discussed tensions on the Korean Peninsula. This follows a recent missile test by North Korea.

The information was revealed by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, February 23 local time.

Quoting Antara, the Chinese Special Envoy for the Korean Peninsular Affairs Liu Xiaoming and the US Deputy Special Envoy for North Korea Jung Pak held a video conference.

During the talks, Liu stressed the importance of solving key problems on the Korean Peninsula and solving common problems through dialogue.

Liu stressed that stability will benefit the region and the world. He also ensured China's commitment to play an important role in efforts to resolve the political problem.

Meanwhile, Pak acknowledged that the US appreciates China's contribution to this issue and expressed its desire to continue communication and collaboration to face various challenges on the Korean Peninsula.

North Korea's missile tests have recently raised concerns, not only in South Korea but also in Japan, another key US ally in the region. In response, the three countries have intensified military cooperation and joint exercises to counter the threat of North Korea.

At the same time, Washington urged Beijing to use its influence to force Pyongyang to stop their nuclear and missile programs. Beijing insists that mutual trust between the US and North Korea needs to be resolved first.
