JAKARTA - Director General (Dirjen) of Human Rights (HAM) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Dhana Putra emphasized that forms of bullying under any pretext should not be allowed to occur, because it can injure the dignity and harm victims.

"From human rights perspectives, bullying under any pretext clearly injures dignity and honor, and causes psychological losses to every individual who becomes a victim; so it should not be allowed," said Dhana in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, February 24.

Dhana said this was to respond to recent cases of bullying among students, including one of which occurred at Binus School Serpong, Tangerang, Banten.

Given that the perpetrators of bullying among students are still children, continued Dhana, the restorative justice approach and the best interests of children must be put forward.

From the regulatory aspect, state commitments for children related to the law have been regulated in Law Number 35 of 2014 and Law Number 11 of 2012 concerning the Juvenile Criminal Justice System.

"We believe law enforcement officials are able to wisely and wisely view cases like this, by of course prioritizing the best interests of children," explained Dhana.

The Directorate General of Human Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights continues to campaign for the implementation of human rights values in the world of education with various parties.

Not only with civil society organizations (CSO), foreign partners, as well as students; these efforts are also carried out by inviting the younger generation.

The Directorate General of Human Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights together with students in Jakarta have formed the Human Rights Lovers Youth Community (Koppeta HAM).

Dhana hopes that Koppeta HAM can help the government work to instill human rights values from an early age.

"We at the Directorate General of Human Rights together with Koppeta HAM have indeed scheduled human rights dissemination regarding bullying in a number of schools in Jakarta in the near future," said Dhana.

Previously, information on cases of bullying against an 11th grader in international high school in Tangerang circulated on social media. The bullying was allegedly carried out by a group of 12th grade male students.

Related to this, the South Tangerang City Metro Resort Police has raised the status of investigations related to the bullying case that occurred at an international school in the Serpong area.
