KPU Gives Paniai-Simeulue Coblos Susulant Easing Time Limit

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) has made concessions for Paniai, Central Papua and Simeulue, Aceh to hold further voting (PSS) beyond the set time limit.

Article 373 of Law (3) of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections states that re-voting at TPS is carried out no later than 10 days after voting day based on the Regency / City KPU decision.

"The time limit is 10 days after the voting day. However, there will be several areas experiencing lex specialis, due to late logistics delivery transportation," said KPU member Idham Holik as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 23.

Voting or voting for the 2024 General Election will be held on February 14, so that the deadline for re-voting for the 2024 General Election is February 24, 2024 or 10 days after the simultaneous voting.

Idham explained that the special treatment was only given to areas that were geographically varied. For example, logistics for 92 polling stations in Paniai that will hold PSS have just been flown to Central Papua, Friday (23/2) morning.

"Kita tahu penerbangan ke Papua Tengah harus transit di Jayapura, lalu terbang. Lalu, masih ada kegiatan sortur lipat ( surat suara). Ini membutuhkan waktu," katanya.

The same thing happened at the follow-up vote in Simeulue, Aceh. Idham said that currently PSS logistics in the area is still in Banda Aceh.

To achieve Simeulue, 12 hours of shipping is needed. Therefore, PSS in Simeulue is likely to be held on February 25, 2024.

"The logistics already exist, not to mention it needs time for packaging," concluded Idham.
