JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) asked the Directorate General of PAS to explain clearly regarding the escort of Mardani H. Maming, who was convicted of a corruption case of mining business licenses when he left the Sukamiskin Class I Correctional Institution, Bandung, West Java. Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said an explanation was needed because a video circulated in a number of media depicting Mardani Maming not being under strict guard at the airport. In fact, every inmate who is allowed to leave the prison must be escorted. “ We hope that the Directorate General of PAS will immediately respond and provide a clear explanation regarding the incident. Is it true that he left according to the rules and mechanisms in the prison itself because in principle the convict could come out for certain purposes,” Ali told reporters at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, February 20. “ Because in principle the convict can come out for certain interests. However, there are conditions, there are procedures that are strictly guarded, for example, by prison officers with clear identities so as not to cause other perceptions and interpretations,” he continued. "If we look at the news, it looks like there is no escort, yes, whose identity is clear from the prison officer, of course, there is a clear explanation that needs to be explained because after all, prisons are as good as coaching so that these corruptors are deterrent," he said. Maming who was convicted of a corruption case of mining business license (IUP) was suspected of leaving the Sukamiskin Correctional Institution (Lapas), Bandung, West Java.
