Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) of Jember Regency M. Syai'in said the ad hoc body of election organizers who change or shift the results of votes could face criminal penalties.

"I remind the sub-district election committee (PPK), the voting committee (PPS) and the polling group (KPPS) not to play with the results of the vote because the threat is criminal," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 19.

According to him, there have been rumors circulating on social media regarding the shift in the results of the votes acquired for certain legislative candidates, but so far this has not been true because election organizers in Jember Regency have carried out the stages in accordance with the provisions.

"We have instructed each KPPS to recapitulate the vote acquisition in accordance with the form C results that have been determined by the KPPS in each polling station," he said.

Syai'in also gave a strong warning to the electoral ad hoc body not to do things outside the provisions such as shifting the results of votes at the time of the recapitulation of vote count at the sub-district level.

"Of course there are legal consequences that must be faced by election organizers when playing with the results of the vote either intentionally or unintentionally, so that strict action will be taken in accordance with the provisions," he said.

He explained that the recapitulation of vote acquisition calculations at the sub-district level according to the schedule determined by KPU regulations took place from February 16 to March 2, 2024.

"For the recapitulation of vote acquisition calculations at the PPK level in Jember starting on Sunday (18/2) and hopefully it will be completed before the end of February 2024," he said.

According to him, the recapitulation of vote counting at the sub-district level will continue, although there is an appeal from the KPU to postpone the recapitulation of vote counting at the PPK level due to improvements to the recapitulation information system (Sirekap) application.

"In Jember, the recapitulation of vote count at the sub-district level has continued since Sunday (18/2) because Sirekap is running smoothly and there are no obstacles," he said.
