9 Villages In East Kotawaringin Submerged By Floods, 134 Families Refuge

A number of areas in East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, were hit by floods, after several days of heavy rain. As a result, as many as nine villages in two sub-districts, namely in Cempaga Hulu and Cempaga, were flooded with a height of 95 cm to 110 cm. Head of BPBD East Kotawaringin Multazam said the worst flooding was in Sungai Ubar Mandiri Village in Cempaga Hulu District. In this area, the flood has submerged hundreds of residents' houses, which affected 134 families in 5 RT. As a result, as many as 96 other families had to evacuate. "The flood in Sei Ubar Mandiri Village, Cempaga Hulu District has an average water height of 95 centimeters to 110 centimeters, the flooding in this area is thought to be due to the overflowing Ubar River," he said, Monday, February 19.

Multazam added, by looking at the flood conditions that hit Sungai Ubar Mandiri Village, his party plans to coordinate with relevant stakeholders to propose the normalization of the Ubar River, so that in the future this area will not be flooded again. Nine villages that were flooded, namely Bantilan Village, Selucing, Pelahan, Harapan Beach, Bukit Raya, Sudan, Parit, Rubung Buyung, and Patai Village.
