IKWI Invites Women To Voice If They Experience Or See Victims Of Domestic Violence

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Family Association (IKWI) Andi Dasmawati, Ph.D. said that the low level of education was a factor in the cause of domestic violence (KDRT).

This was stated by Andi Dasmawati when she was a speaker at the IKWI Seminar which carried the theme "Abolition of Domestic Violence (KDRT)", as a series of activities for the 2024 National Press Day (HPN) in Ancol, North Jakarta, Sunday (18/2/2024).

Andi said that low education and limited income could trigger domestic violence. In addition, domestic violence also occurs a lot in married couples whose marriage age is still relatively young.

"KDRT also occurs a lot at a young age of marriage," said Andi Dasmawati Ph.D, Sunday, February 18.

Andi Dasmawati had shown data in 2020 where the number of domestic violence cases in West Java was the highest, namely 2,738. For comparison, 2,525 cases occurred in Central Java and 2,222 cases in DKI.

Meanwhile, throughout Indonesia as many as 4,783 or 43 percent were due to physical violence. Then 2,807 or 25 percent of sexual cases and 2,056 or 19 percent of cases of psychological violence.

The graduate of the Malaysian University of Technology said that there were 11,105 cases of domestic violence in Indonesia. This number is still less high than the cases that occurred abroad. "This is a recorded case, which did not report much more," he said.

Andi called for women or mothers to dare to report if they experienced or saw domestic violence to environmental or police administrators. This reporting effort must be made in order to reduce the number of domestic violence.

He emphasized that obeying and obeying the husband is an obligation and it becomes the wife's path to heaven. However, if you experience bad things, you must have the courage to speak up.

"If things go bad, we have to speak up and not be silent," he said.

Meanwhile, the founder of the School of STIKOM The London School of Public Relations (LSPPR), Dr (HC) Prita Kemal Gani said, domestic violence does not only happen to women with low education. However, this domestic violence can happen to anyone.

Prita Kemal gave an example of the case of celebrity and film star from the United States, Angelina Jolie, who was a victim of domestic violence by her own husband. The filmmaker finally decided to divorce her husband Brad Pitt who was the perpetrator of violence.

"What is the lack of Angelina Jolie. The UNHCR brand ambassador is also a victim of domestic violence," said Prita Kemal Gani.

Prita also said that power was the cause of the domestic violence case. Celebrities who are suddenly famous and have many assets are prone to domestic violence. In addition, cases of violence by lecturers in students or superiors on subordinates.

Prita gave tips to avoid domestic violence, namely never surrender yourself to anyone. "When we are helpless, other people will deceive us," said Prita Kemal Gani.

Head of the PPA Ditipidum Bareskrim Polri Unit AKBP Ema Rahmawati SIK, who became the next resource person, stated that domestic violence had an impact on psychology that often caused victims to experience trauma.

There are so many forms of domestic violence against women. Starting from the Crime of People's Sales (TPPO), with the mode of being lured by jobs abroad with large salaries. But in reality it is not appropriate, so it becomes a victim of sexual exploitation in entertainment venues.

Ema Rahmawati confirmed that based on reports that came to the National Police, the domestic violence case was among the highest. This case is even increasing almost every year. Ironically, many cases like this stop halfway because the reporter withdraws the report.

"There are still not many mothers who dare to report cases of violence," he said.

Ema said that there were many reasons why victims of violence against women and children decided not to report to the police. The reason is because he is embarrassed if the family's disgrace is exposed, he is worried about accelerating the problem until he is worried that it will lead to divorce.

"Women are still thinking about how the children will be divorced. And there is more, namely, they still hope that the perpetrators of violence can change their behavior," he said.
