Police Remind People Not To Spread Hoaxes In The Calm Period Of The 2024 Election

The National Police is intensifying the delivery of messages of security and public order (kamtibmas) during the calm period of the 2024 election. One of the messages conveyed is so that people do not spread false news or hoaxes whose statements have not been confirmed. "The National Police always conveys messages from the public order, education and informative, including about the rise of fake news or hoaxes that are still rife on social media," said Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko in his statement in Jakarta, Sunday, February 11. He reminded that spreading hoax information could harm yourself and others. "In general, fake information or fake news on the internet is redistributed by means of copy and paste (copas). After being removed, the content is edited in such a way and inserted with the idea of a hoax purpose interest which of course without including a source link," he said. In addition, Trunoyudo also emphasized that some information stating that the Police were not neutral in the 2024 election was not true. "The National Police will be neutral and that is a fixed price for the Police. Because the Police are bound by the laws and regulations of the National Police Chief (Perkap)," said Trunoyudo. Trunoyudo added that the National Police is currently focusing on the responsibility of securing the 2024 General Election with all relevant stakeholders to create a safe, cool, peaceful and dignified 2024 election. "The National Police continues to be committed to making the 2024 election run safely, peacefully, coolly and dignifiedly to the end and the election of a new national leader," said Trunoyudo. Previously, the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Pol. Sandi Nugroho also appealed to all elements of society to maintain unity and integrity ahead of the voting day for the 2024 General Election on February 14.

The two-star police general emphasized that the National Police together with the TNI and all components of the nation are ready to maintain the security of the election process to completion.
