PVMBG Reminds Residents Around Mount Lewotobi To Beware Of Cold Lava Floods In The Rainy Season

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has again appealed to the community around the Lewotobi Laki Volcano in East Flores to be aware of the potential for cold lava flooding considering the frequent rain in the area.

"It was conveyed to all people to be careful of the flow of cold lava because there is currently heavy rain on the top of the mountain," said the male Mount Lewotobi Monitoring Officer, Herman Yosef S Mboro, in his report, Wednesday, February 7, which was confiscated by Antara.

From the report on the activity of Mount Lewotobi Men for the observation period from 06.00 to 12.00 WITA, it was recorded that there was a lava flood with an amplitude of 47.3 mm and a duration of 2,541 seconds.

Due to this condition, Herman also appealed to the public to avoid rivers that originate from the top of the mountain.

This flood vibration or rain lava was also recorded on Sunday, February 4, so the public must be aware of it, especially in the midst of the current rainy season.

As recommended by the mountain with Alert or Level III status, the public is asked not to carry out any activities within a 4 kilometer radius (km) of the eruption center, as well as sectoral 5 km in the north-northeast and 6 km in the northeast sector.

Meanwhile, to avoid the impact of volcanic ash rain on health conditions, PVMBG urges the public to continue wearing masks or nasal and mouth coverings.

"The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation will always coordinate with the NTT BPBD and the local PB Satlak in providing information about the activities of Mount Lewotobi Men," said Herman.

PVMBG recorded visual observations of the mountain in the last six hours showing moderate pressure crater smoke being observed to be white with moderate intensity and a height of 500-700 meters above the crater peak.

In addition, two eruptions were observed with a height of 700 meters and a color of white and gray smoke.

The lava flow was recorded moving towards the northeast for approximately 4,100 meters from the eruption center.
