Satpol PP Will Lower Campaign Attributes During Calm Periods, But Election Participants Should Know Yourself

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) Arifin said his staff would move to lower the campaign props (APK) for the 2024 General Election when entering a period of calm after the campaign ended. "Yes, we will take it down, we will clean it up, because there should be no more APK-APK on calm days. So, we will automatically reduce it on calm days," Arifin told reporters, Wednesday, February 7. However, Arifin emphasized that the decline in campaign attributes for political parties, legislative candidates, and vice presidential candidates in calm times is the obligation of election participants. Thus, Arifin reminded the election participants to realize and carry out the removal of all APKs installed during the campaign season. "The day before the submission of the APK, the election participants were asked to lower themselves. Still, the appeal was conveyed to all election participants to reduce the APK," explained Arifin. As is known, the General Elections Commission (KPU) has set a calm period for the 2024 General Election for 3 days, from 11 to 13 February 2024. The calm period lasts after a campaign period of 75 days by the election participants. After the calm period ends, people will vote at the polling station according to their place of residence. Calm times are times that cannot be used to carry out election campaign activities. In Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, it is stated that the implementers, participants, and/or campaign teams for the presidential and vice-presidential elections are prohibited from campaigning during calm times.

Violations of prohibitions during calm times are threatened with a maximum imprisonment of 4 years and a maximum fine of IDR 48 million.
