JAKARTA - Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Kusworo ordered his personnel to make maximum use of unmanned aircraft or drones during pre-operative duties.

"Pay attention, yes, I give this order to the Head of the SAR Office throughout Indonesia so that it can be implemented properly and optimally," said Kusworo at a national working meeting in Jakarta, Monday.

According to him, currently there are four types of drone devices owned by each SAR office throughout Indonesia.

Each of these drones is equipped with a body heat detector sonar technology that is very useful for supporting operations to be faster, more precise and measurable.

This is known based on the results of the evaluation of all search and rescue operations carried out by the Basarnas team in the field.

The latest drone operated by Basarnas is a "drone fixed wing vtol" (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) specifically for observational missions before SAR operations are carried out.

He gave an example of the pre-operation of searching for flood victims in Lake Toba waters, and the search for climbers was lost when the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra.

"The most important thing is that the missing victims can be quickly found, then increase the potential for survival," he said.

He also ensured that he had coordinated with the government and the Indonesian House of Representatives to provide high-tech additional equipment to support the smooth running of the humanitarian mission carried out by Basarnas.

Basarnas has previously proposed the procurement of five types of technologically advanced equipment in the 2024 budget budget requirement ceiling with a total amount of IDR 3.6 billion to Commission V DPR RI. The equipment is in the form of SAR Drone, Long Range Radar SAR, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and Handles Sonar.

"We also continue to improve the capabilities of personnel, such as mentoring or mentoring with SAR organizations from high-class countries, namely in this case the United States," he concluded.
