Anticipating More Floods, Anies Collaborates To Prepare Everything, Including A Community Handbook For Facing Floods

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is still anticipating the handling of inundation and flooding in a number of areas.

One of the efforts made is the distribution of additional supporting infrastructure to face the rainy season for urban villages and neighborhoods prone to inundation and flooding.

Acting (Plt) Chief Executive of the DKI Jakarta Provincial BPBD, Sabdo Kurnianto, said that this additional infrastructure was the result of a collaboration between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and BNPB, Baznas (Bazis) DKI Jakarta, Bank DKI, and Bank BRI.

"Yesterday we distributed additional support facilities for the first phase of 182 RT and 31 RW in 14 sub-districts prone to inundation and flooding, namely meghaphones, flashlights, evacuation tubes, medical masks and cloth masks. We will do the distribution in stages, ”he said, Wednesday, February 24.

Sabdo said the supporting infrastructure for facing the rainy season had been distributed to Siaga Village in five urban areas and the Thousand Islands Regency last week. Starting from boats, tires in the evacuation and cloth masks and medical masks.

In his statement, the DKI Provincial Government detailed additional infrastructure to anticipate inundation and flooding, namely 13 rubber boats, 51 thousand cloth masks, 190 tires, and megaphones.

“The community has 33,311 books for flood preparedness. Flood control guidebooks for OPDs, business institutions and volunteers are 611 units, "explained the Acting Head of DKI BPBD.

Promise of infiltration wells in the middle of Jakarta floods

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has a target of constructing 1.8 million vertical drainage infiltration wells during his tenure. Infiltration wells are included in one of the flood management programs.

The target of making absorption wells is included in the regional medium-term program plan (RPJMD). Unfortunately, the realization is still far from the target.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, said that the target of 1.8 million infiltration wells in the RPJMD turned out to be only a necessity, but not necessarily fulfilled.

"We need to explain again. What is meant by the Governor of 1.8 million infiltration wells is Jakarta's need, not to be fulfilled in 5 years or in 1 year. It is impossible," said Riza at the City Hall of DKI, Central Jakarta.

Riza compared it with the target of developing the Moda Raya Terpadu (MRT) Jakarta route as far as 230 kilometers. According to him, this target is also impossible to achieve in one leadership period.

"So, we have a long-term plan. In the long term, the need for infiltration wells is 1.8 million. For example, the need for MRT is 230 kilometers. Is it possible for a period? It is not possible. This indeed takes time," said Riza.

Therefore, Deputy Governor Riza hopes that the construction of infiltration wells will not only rely on the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government. He asked the private sector, developers, building owners, offices, and the community to participate.

"We will ask each resident to also build infiltration wells in their respective homes. Moreover, in areas that have the potential for flooding," said Riza.
