The General Election Commission (KPU) has prepared a scenario to relocate polling stations (TPS) to the evacuation site for the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"We have prepared a scenario for relocationps following the determination of the status of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi," said East Flores KPU chairman Eliap Abon when contacted from Kupang, NTT, Friday, February 2 afternoon, confiscated by Antara.

This was conveyed in connection with the efforts of the East Flores KPU to continue holding the 2024 General Election on February 14 in the midst of the natural disaster situation of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki.

He explained, when according to a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PMBG) the status of the mountain had dropped from alert to alert.

In addition, there is a prohibition against activities with a distance of five kilometers from the peak of the eruption. Some villages, he said, are in the coordinate point, which prohibits community activities.

"The point is that people in refugee camps continue to vote. The voters are displaced because we are still following the election movement," he said.

However, the East Flores KPU, he said, was still monitoring the development of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi, a man who had also erupted in 2003.

"But if until February seven, as stated in the letter of determination of the disaster emergency date from the Acting Regent and the determination of the status of mountain eruption by the Geological Agency, the Geological Agency allows there to be activities in previous villages on the red line, then we build butts normally, in each village," he added.

Commander of Korem 161/Wira Sakti Brigadier General Febriel Buyung Sikumbang said that when accompanying the Head of BNPB to the disaster site, there were already talks about construction but specifically at the disaster site.

"The head of BNPB said that if the status of the mountain had dropped to level two from alert to alert, people would be allowed to return home, but if not, it would be addressed but specifically," he said.

The one-star commander said the TNI would be ready to help secure the implementation of the General Election at the disaster site if a special butt was made.

Thousands of refugees in a number of sub-districts in East Flores near Mount Lewotobi have been displaced for approximately one month and two days, due to the eruption of the Lewotobi volcano, which is still releasing the material.

So far, about six refugees have died with a diagnosis due to shortness of breath and stomach pain.
