JAKARTA - Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian had good qualifications to become the Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam).

Tito was appointed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as Plt. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, after the postponement of Mohammad Mahfud MD from the position.

"Mr. Tito Karnavian in the ranks of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs is one of the senior ministers, besides there are also several other ministers. So Mr. President appointed him as Plt. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," said Ari at the State Secretariat building, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 2.

According to Ari, the factor for appointing Tito as Plt. The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs has been considered based on the professional aspect considering his long track record in politics and security.

Tito, who was inaugurated as Minister of Home Affairs on October 23, 2019, was also said to be able to cooperate with institutions outside the government.

Ari assured that Tito's appointment as Plt. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs will not affect the performance of the Ministry of Home Affairs or the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

"I don't think (influential). Our government system is going well. In addition, of course, Mr. Tito will be assisted by the deputy-deputy of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, so that there will be no difficulties for Mr. Tito to carry out his function as Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," he said.

Assisted by a good support system, according to Ari, Tito will be able to continue what was built and run previously by Mahfud Md as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs previously.

He also said that the change in leadership dynamics at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs would not interfere with the implementation of the 2024 General Election.

"I don't think there are any concerns regarding the implementation of the election. All processes have gone well. There are election administrators, the Ministry of Home Affairs has worked well and is running well. The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs has also carried out its functions well," said Ari.

Based on Presidential Decree Number 20/P of 2024 signed by President Jokowi in Jakarta, Friday, Tito Karnavian was appointed as Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs until the President appointed a definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.
