The Rise Of Cases Of Death Of Power In Bantul, Police Remind Potential Dangers In The Rainy Season

DI YOGYAKARTA - Police appealed to the public to be aware of the dangers of electricity in the rainy season following a number of cases of electrocution in recent days in Bantul, Special Region (DI) Yogyakarta

"Why do we have to be vigilant? Due to the nature of the water that the conductor is able to deliver electricity, it is very vulnerable to causing accidents due to being electrocuted," said Head of Public Relations of the Bantul Police, AKP I Nengah Jeffry Prana Widnyana in his statement, Thursday, February 1, which was confiscated by Antara.

He also reminded the public to check all the electricity installation cables in the house or around the residence, none of which were open.

He also asked the public to avoid taking shelter near electrical installations, such as poles, substations, public street lighting panels (PJU) and others. If you are going to pass through puddles of water, use water-proof boots to avoid the danger of leaking electrical stresses.

"In a wet condition, use rubber gloves if you want to touch the electrical installation. If you find an electrical installation that has the potential to be dangerous, give a warning sign and report it to the contact center of PLN 123," he said.

He also reminded that if there are residents who want to repair or install electrical installations, they should hand them over to those who are experts.

"Don't do it yourself, leave it to the experts if you want to repair or install an electrical installation to avoid accidents," he said.

According to him, in early 2024, four residents died from electrocution, the latest case hit DW (28), a resident from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) who died from being electrocuted while working on repairing the roof of a leaking house in Bantul.

The day before, Wednesday, January 31, the case of an electric shock hit AR (43), a resident of Timbulharjo, Sewon, Bantul. The victim was electrocuted while repairing a dead lamp at his place of work on Jalan Parangtritis, Timbulharjo.

Jeffry also reminded a number of activities to avoid being protected from the dangers of electricity, including building a house less than three meters away from the 20 KV mid-voltage electricity network which has a large electric induction.

The public is also advised not to cut trees, bamboo, or other plants close to the electricity grid. Establishing TV antenna poles, telephone poles, parabolic, transmitters of other telecommunications equipment adjacent to the power grid.

"Then burn the garbage under the power grid. Play kites, fly drones, throw objects or touch things around the power grid," he said.

In addition, he said, another thing to avoid is to put up billboards, banners, billboards which are less than three meters away from the power grid or on power poles.

"If you want to dig the ground to be careful, make sure the surrounding environment is safe from power lines, because there could be some power lines stored on the ground," he said.
