Kaesang Comments On Mahfud MD's Resignation, Appreciation For The Work Of The Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs

MANADO - Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party Kaesang Pangarep commented on Mahfud MD's decision to resign from the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs by appreciating Mahfud's hard work as a minister to President Joko Widodo.

"We appreciate Pak Mahfud's hard work so far as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mr. President. I think he has been working very well so far," said Kaesang after PSI's Grand Campaign at the North Treman Minahasa Village Field, North Sulawesi, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 31.

Mahfud MD, who is a candidate for vice president number 3, gave an official statement that he resigned as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. The statement was delivered directly by him in Central Lampung.

Mahfud said he would submit his resignation letter directly to the President when he had the opportunity to meet.

Kaesang also said that Mahfud Md's decision to resign as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs was one of his electoral strategies in the 2024 Presidential Election.

"But maybe this is one of his electoral strategies. But it doesn't matter, it's his political choice," said Kaesang.

Apart from Mahfud, presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto is also still serving as Minister of Defense in President Joko Widodo's government.

Regarding whether Prabowo should also follow in the footsteps of Mahfud, Kaesang left this entirely to the Minister of Defense.

"Yes, back to the Minister of Defense. I leave it to the Minister of Defense," said Kaesang.

Mahfud, who is currently running for vice president in pairs with Ganjar Pranowo, announced his intention to publicly withdraw from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet led by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

Mahfud explained that his decision to resign as cabinet minister of President Jokowi's government had been agreed upon by Ganjar and the political party that carried the Ganjar-Mahfud pair, namely the PDI-P, PPP, Perindo Party, and Hanura Party.

Mahfud's desire to resign from the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs was first expressed openly at the "Professional Crash" event in Semarang, Central Java, Tuesday (23/1) night. At that time, Mahfud said he was waiting for the right time to withdraw from the cabinet of President Jokowi's government.
