Police Are Looking For The Perpetrators Of The Elephant Killers In Tesso Nilo National Park

The Riau Police's Sub-Directorate IV Team of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimus) investigated to find the perpetrators of the training elephant killer who were found dead and lost ivory in the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) area.

The investigation was carried out because based on the results of a check from the management of Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN), it was found that there was poison in the elephant's body.

"Members of the Riau Police are conducting an investigation," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation (Reskrimsus) of the Riau Police, Kombes Pol Nasriadi in his statement quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, January 28.

He promised to later convey the progress of handling this case. The investigation was carried out starting with Jumadi's findings as the elephant handler who saw the elephant named Rahman was dead on Wednesday (10/1).

"Mahout (the elephant handler) initially came to meet Rahman to give him fruits. However, several times Rahman was called, he did not answer and after being searched, an elephant was found weak. Left Ivory was also found missing," said TNTN Head Heru Sutmantoro.

Jumadi then reported the findings to the mahit coordinator and jointly checked the traces of the perpetrators who caused the death of the 46-year-old elephant.

Before dying, at around 15.55 WIB, based on the instructions of the Riau BKSDA doctor, they had provided first aid by providing haras (north), milk and liquid sugar using a hose. However, Rahman's life could not be saved.

"Based on the results of strong necropsy, it is suspected that Rahman was poisoned before his ivory was cut. After Rahman's death, we reported it to the Ukui Police, Pelalawan Police," said Heru.
