MANADO - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Geophysics Station recorded 41 tectonic earthquakes that shocked the North Sulawesi region and its surroundings.

"The earthquake occurred in the period January 19-25, 2024," said the Coordinator for Data and Information at the BMKG Geophysics Station, Muhammad Zulkifli in Manado, Saturday.

Most or 73.17 percent (30 events) had a magnitude of between three and 4.9, while the remaining 26.83 percent had a magnitude of less than three.

"During this period there were no earthquakes that were felt," he said.

According to the depth of the earthquake, he said, 56.10 percent or 23 of them were shallow earthquakes (between one and 60 kilometers).

Furthermore, 41.46 percent medium-deep (between 61-300 kilometers) and 2.44 percent deep (more than 300 kilometers).

From a seismicity map or epicenter map, most of the earthquake occurred in the Tomini Bay and northern Maluku Sea areas to Talaud Island.

Last week, Manado's Geophysics recorded as many as 70 tectonic earthquakes.
