JAKARTA - The death toll of Palestinians in Gaza in Palestine reached 26,000 on Friday, as Israel expanded its military ground operations in the Khan Younis region, south of the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that around 26,083 Palestinians were killed and 64,487 others injured in Gaza, since the Hamas-Israeli conflict broke out on October 7.

Authorities in Gaza said at least 183 Palestinians were killed and 377 injured in the past 24 hours, as Israel continues its military ground operations in Gaza.

"Israeli colonies carried out 19 massacres of families in the Gaza Strip, leaving 183 martyrs dead and 377 injured over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement, launching Daily Sabah January 26.

"Many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the road as rescue teams cannot reach them," the statement continued.

One of Israel's deadly attacks took place on Thursday, leaving 20 Palestinians dead and 150 others injured while queuing for food aid.

Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said the death toll "will likely increase as hospitals do not have the means to care for them," CNN said.

Meanwhile, Gaza's Civil Defense said the victims suffered "extraordinary injuries" following an attack on civilians waiting for help near Gaza City on Thursday.

"There were hundreds of people injured. The types of injuries are unbelievable. Some people have lost their limbs," said Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal of Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Israel launched a military campaign to eliminate Hamas after the militant group invaded Israel on October 7 and killed 1,200 people, most civilians, and took more than 200 people hostage back to Gaza.

Israeli attacks have left 85 percent of Gaza's population displaced amid food shortages, clean water and medicines, while 60 percent of infrastructure in the enclave is damaged or destroyed, according to the United Nations.
