BMKG: M 5.6 Earthquake In Nagekeo NTT Due To The Flores Rising Fault

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 5.6 that hit Mabay, Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), was caused by the Flores Rising Fault.

The earthquake, which occurred on Thursday, January 25 at around 19.24 WIB, had a depth of 11 kilometers.

"Based on the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the Flores Sea earthquake M5.6 that occurred was a shallow earthquake due to the activity of the Flores Rising Fault (FloresThrust)," wrote X, Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, Thursday, January 25.

Daryono said the mechanism for earthquake sources showed an upward movement mechanism or thrust fault.

In its X-medsos account, BMKG reported that the earthquake was centered in the sea 47 km northwest of Mbay.

Earthquake tremors were felt on a scale (MMI) III in Ruteng, III Waingapu, III Bajawa, III Ende, III Maumere, III Labuan Bajo, II Kupang, and a scale III in Bima City.

"There is no potential for a tsunami," wrote the BMKG X account.
