JAKARTA - Indonesia requested that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) no longer allow the war in Gaza to continue. Even though the Security Council has passed a number of resolutions regarding the Palestinian conflict, Israeli violence continues to occur.
This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi while attending the UN Security Council open debate in New York, Tuesday, January 23 local time.
"I remind you that council members have a mandate to maintain international peace and security, not to tolerate war, let alone genocide," said Retno.
According to Retno, the UN Charter clearly states that resolutions adopted by the Security Council are binding and must be implemented.
“My question is how many resolutions on Palestine have been adopted? How many have been implemented? "Where should the Palestinians complain if the Security Council has failed to implement the resolutions they made themselves when Israel kills Palestinians with impunity," explained Retno.
Furthermore, Retno said she asked this question because there were no sanctions issued by the UN Security Council when there were violations of the Palestine resolution.
“I saw that many resolutions were violated regarding Palestine. "However, there have never been any sanctions for violators," said Retno in a separate press statement on the same day.
