MATARAM - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of West Nusa Tenggara revealed the case of a South Korean foreign citizen with the initials GMB (59) who used a fake permanent residence permit (KITAP) card while in Mataram City.

"From the evidence obtained, a foreigner from South Korea with the initials GMB was named a suspect based on the results of the case title on Tuesday (23/1) yesterday," said Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of NTB Parlindungan as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 24.

In determining GMB as a suspect, immigration civil servant (PPNS) investigators apply Article 121 letter (b) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

The evidence that confirms the suspect's actions violates the immigration laws and regulations while in Mataram City is KITAP palau on behalf of GMB and two units of GMB's smartphones.

Regarding the fake KITAP, Parlindungan emphasized that the Immigration PPNS had received certainty from the results of document verification by the Directorate of Immigration Stay Permits at the Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Based on a reply letter from the Ditintalkim of the Directorate General of Immigration, KITAP stated that it was illegal or false," he said.

Based on this information, the immigration PPNS immediately arrested the GMB and secured the person concerned in the detention room of the Class I Immigration Office of TPI Mataram.

He explained that the officers initially received information regarding the whereabouts of a foreigner from South Korea who was in a house in the Mayura area, Mataram City.

Following up on this information, officers checked the whereabouts of the GMB. As a result, the foreigner was unable to show his passport and residence permit card.

The reason is that passports are stored in Bali and KITAP is entrusted to a colleague in Bogor.

"On that basis, our officers secured the GMB in the immigration detention room for further examination needs," he said.

During the security period in the immigration detention room, GMB was finally able to show his passport and KITAP to the officer.

"From the results of the examination, the passport has not been valid since 2018, the KITAP is still until 2026," said Parlindungan.

However, from the examination, the immigration authorities were suspicious of GMB's KITAP, so they asked for confirmation from the Directorate of Immigration Stay Permits at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

"Even though one of the basic requirements for the extension of the KITAP is a valid passport. When the passport is less than 6 months, it cannot be extended to KITAP, we suspect and ask for verification from the Directorate General of Immigration and the result is that GMB's KITAP is fake," he said.
