The Attorney General's Office Names New Suspects In Corruption Cases In The North Sumatra Railway Project

JAKARTA - Investigators from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General's Office have again named a new suspect or seventh in a corruption case in the Besitang-Langsa Railway (KA) construction project, North Sumatra, worth IDR 1.3 trillion.

The suspect with the initials FG, is the seventh suspect, after previously Friday (19/1) investigators named six suspects.

"Based on the process of examining witnesses and evidence that has been obtained to this day, the investigative team has again named a suspect with the initials FG," said the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, Ketut Sumedana, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 23.

Ketut explained that the suspect FG is strongly suspected of having a role to play in disclosing work packages on the Besitang-Langsa railway line construction project for the 2017 to 2019 period carried out by the Medan Railway Engineering Center worth Rp1.3 trillion.

"In carrying out the project, the suspect FG is suspected of having a role to play in disclosing work packages, so that the implementation of the work package auction is in accordance with his wishes," said Ketut.

Technically, said Ketut, the project was not feasible and did not meet the provisions because no feasibility study (fisibility study) was carried out at all, and without the determination of train lanes by the Ministry of Transportation. "As a result of the actions of the suspect FG and other suspects, the huge loss of this project cannot be used," he said.

Regarding the amount of state losses, continued Ketut, the investigative team is still conducting calculations by coordinating intensively with related parties.

"It is possible that this project is categorized as a total loss because it cannot be used at all," he said.

For the purposes of the investigation, the suspect FG was detained for the next 20 days starting from January 23 to February 11. As for the articles violated by FG, namely Article 2 Paragraph (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

Previously, six suspects were named by the AGO in this case, namely the initials NSS, and the AGP of each Budget User Authority (KPA), as well as the former Head of the Medan Railway Engineering Center.

In addition, ASS and HH as Commitment Making Officers, RMY as Chair of the 2017 Construction Procurement Working Group (Pokja), and AG as Director of PT DGY who is also a planning consultant and work supervision consultant.
