JAKARTA - The Malaysian authorities have decided to reduce the price of subsidized gasoline and diesel fuel by 10 cents for a week from July 1-8, 2026.

"In line with the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula, the retail prices of gasoline and diesel without subsidies for this week were lowered in line with the decline in the average international market price in the previous week," said the Malaysian Ministry of Finance in a statement, Wednesday, July 1.

During the period from July 1-8, 2026, the retail price of RON97 was reduced by 10 sen to RM4 per liter (equivalent to Rp17,527).

The retail price of RON95 without subsidy was also reduced by 10 sen to RM3.37 per liter (Rp14,766). Meanwhile, the retail price of non-subsidized diesel was reduced by 10 sen to RM3.97 per liter (Rp17,395).

The reduction in retail gasoline and diesel prices is to align with the new price developments, as well as with the implementation of the new subsidized diesel price policy in Malaysia.

Malaysian authorities believe that the price of petroleum in the international market continues to show a moderate trend compared to the highest level recorded at the peak of the crisis in West Asia.

This development is supported by signs of recovery in global supply flows as well as hopes for negotiations related to the West Asian conflict can reduce the risk of disruption of crude oil supplies.

However, Malaysian authorities consider that the global petroleum market is still not fully stable. Risks to crude oil prices, shipping costs, and supply stability still exist as long as the conflict has not reached a final settlement, while supply chain recovery also takes time.

Although the current national fuel supply is still sufficient, the Malaysian government urges the public to continue to use fuel sparingly.

Malaysian authorities say more efficient travel planning and reducing unnecessary travel can help extend the availability of national supplies while reducing pressure on subsidy spending.
