Arsul Sani Resigns From The DPR, Munawaroh Becomes A Substitute In Parliament

JAKARTA - PPP DPP chairman Achmad Baidowi or Awiek said Arsul Sani's position, who resigned as a member of the DPR because he became a constitutional judge, would be replaced by Munawaroh, as the owner of the second most votes in the Central Java electoral district X.

"Pak Arsul has withdrawn from PPP and the DPR, Mrs. Munawaroh's PAW has the second most votes," said Awiek when contacted by VOI, Thursday, January 18.

Meanwhile, the position of deputy chairman of PPP, said Awiek, will be left vacant until the 2024 General Election is over. In addition to resigning as a member of the legislature, Arsul Sani also left his position as Deputy at the PPP DPP as well as a party member.

"The position in the waketum is still vacant. (Because) We focus on facing elections, we haven't thought about a reposition yet. So it's still left empty," explained the member of the DPR for the Madura electoral district, East Java.

The secretary of the PPP faction of the DPR hopes that Arsul can carry out his duties as a judge of the Constitutional Court (MK) properly.

"Hopefully Mr. Arsul can serve the nation and state and that is PPP's contribution to this nation and state," said Awiek.

Arsul Sani, who was just appointed by President Joko Widodo as a constitutional judge on Thursday, stated that he had resigned from his position as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).

"According to the laws of the Constitutional Court and the MD3 Law, a Constitutional Court judge cannot concurrently become a state official," said Arsul Sani after the inauguration at the State Palace, quoted by ANTARA in Jakarta, Thursday, January 18.

Arsul's resignation from a member of Commission III of the DPR RI as well as deputy chairman of the MPR RI was submitted in December 2023, after he was declared to have passed the fit and proper test as a candidate for constitutional judge in 2024 at the DPR's proposal.

"Then, a judge at the Constitutional Court should not be a member, let alone a political party leader. So, I have also submitted, in December, resignation from office and membership in the United Development Party (PPP)," he added.
