Wael Al-Dahdouh Journalist Covering Gaza Who Lost 5 Family Members Will Be Treated In Qatar

JAKARTA - Al Jazeera journalist Wael al-Dahdouh arrived in Egypt via Rafah on his way to Doha, Qatar to undergo health care on Tuesday, January 17 local time.

The journalist, who continues to cover and report on the current condition in Gaza, Palestine, must receive medical treatment due to the Israeli attack.

The Egyptian Journalists Organization said Egyptian authorities had facilitated the arrival of Dahdouh in Egypt from Gaza.

"Dahdouh said he would travel to Qatar for medical treatment," the Egyptian Journalists Organization said in Anadolu, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 17.

There has been no comment from Egyptian authorities regarding the report.

Dahdouh has lost five members of his family during the Israeli attack on Gaza. His wife, two sons, daughters, and grandson died in Israeli aggression.

In December 2023, Dahdouh also had time to receive health care after covering Khan Younis City in southern Gaza. While performing the journalistic performance, Dahdouh received a safe Israeli military attack, while his colleague, who was on camera, Samer Abu Daqqa, was shot dead by Israeli troops.

Last week, the Egyptian Journalists Organization recently awarded the 2024 Press Freedom Award as a tribute to its resilience covering amid an Israeli attack.

Israel has launched non-stop air and landstrikes in the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Hamas that Tel Aviv says killed 1,200 people.

At least 24,285 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed by Israeli attacks. Meanwhile, 61,154 people were injured, according to Palestinian health authorities.

According to the United Nations, 85 percent of Gaza's population has become refugees amid food shortages, clean water and medicines, while 60 percent of infrastructure in the region is damaged or destroyed.
