Punishment For 14 Garut Satpol PP Members Who Support Gibran Rakabuming Tengah Discussed By Gakkumdu

The Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu) of Garut Regency, West Java discussed the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) criminal offense related to the alleged non-neutralization of 14 members of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) who made a video of support for the vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka. "Following up on how today is the result of the discussion, for example, if you still need information or still enough, we don't know," said Garut Regency Bawaslu Chairman Ahmad Nurul Syahid in Garut, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, January 16. He said that Garut Bawaslu had checked 14 members of the Garut Satpol PP, consisting of 13 people, and one person who recorded their activities conveyed support to Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The results of the examination, he said, could not be concluded in full, but related to the core of the examination included employment status and reasons regarding the creation of the video and others. He emphasized that the results of the examination would then become a joint discussion at the Gakkumdu Center which involved the police and the Prosecutor's Office to decide whether to need a re-examination or not. "It depends on today's discussion. There is no conclusion yet," he said. He conveyed that in addition to examining all members of the Garut Satpol PP, Bawaslu had also asked for information from the Head of the Garut Satpol PP as their leader, and the Garut Regional Civil Service Agency to ask about their employment status. The Garut Satpol PP members, he said, were not all state civil servants, they had their status as contract workers (TKK), and volunteer workers (TKS). The status was asked to the BKD regarding the status of the rules in the circular letter of the Menpan RB. "We ask for an explanation from the letter from the Menpan RB," he said.

Based on the previous discussion, Bawaslu Garut suspected the perpetrators of making the video with two articles, namely Article 280 (3) in conjunction with Article 494 and Article 283 of Law 7/2017 concerning Elections with the threat of imprisonment for one year and a fine of IDR 12 million. Previously, a 19-second video showing a number of members of the Garut Satpol PP declared themselves to be supportive of the vice president Gibran spread across a number of social media and WhatsApp Groups of the Garut community.
