Sebelumnya, Kemenkes melaporkan terdapat empat kasus polio tipe 2 yang terdeteksi di Indonesia sepanjang 2022 dan 2023, yakni satu kasus dialami seorang anak di Kabupaten Pidie, Aceh, pada 9 Oktober 2022.Kasus serupa juga dialami bocah berusia 3 tahun di Aceh Utara pada 3 Januari 2023, bocah berusia 4 tahun di Bireuen, Aceh, pada 13 Januari 2023, dan bocah berusia 4 tahun di Purwakarta, Jawa Barat, pada 16 Februari 2023.Tiga kasus tambahan terbaru dilaporkan pada November-Desember 2023, masing-masing dialami usia 6 tahun di Klaten, Jawa Tengah, bocah 1 tahun di Pamekasan Jawa Timur, dan bocah 3 tahun di Sampang, Jawa Timur.
