Debate Of Vice Presidential Candidates Tomorrow To Discuss Wadas Human Rights Violations, Mahfud MD: That's Good

The candidate for vice president number 3 Mahfud MD did not question the issue of Wadas being raised in the debate of the four vice presidential candidates for the 2024 presidential election on Sunday, January 21.

"So the Wadas business is welcome if you want to be asked. Why if you ask? That's good too," said Mahfud after the event "Tabrak Prof!" with Generation Z and millennials in Seulawah Kupi, Medan, North Sumatra, Sunday, January 15 evening.

According to him, Wadas is an issue of human rights violations. His party has asked Komnas HAM to conduct an investigation.

"If there is a human rights violation, I will intervene. The Komnas HAM report is officially written as saying to the public, Wadas has no human rights violations, all procedures are in accordance," he said.

Separately, presidential candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo also invited the Wadas issue, including the Rembang cement factory, to be discussed in the fourth debate of the 2024 presidential election.

According to him, the two development projects are often a problem used to criticize their performance during their tenure as governor of Central Java in the 2013-2023 period. Therefore, the fourth debate can later be used as a clarification event.

He explained that the two developments that are often criticized are National Strategic Projects (PSN). As the governor who is an extension of the central government in the regions, Ganjar admits that he must complete it as a responsibility.

However, he also admitted that he was grateful that the two development projects were still completed even though they were often rejected and criticized. In addition, Ganjar felt that there was a pro-environment decision but was often not exposed.

He admitted that he had refused permission to build a cement factory in Kebumen and a gold mine in Wonogiri which was not a PSN.

"(Rejected) because it does not meet environmental requirements," he said.

In the debate later, there will be a number of big themes raised in the fourth debate, namely energy, natural resources (SDA), food, carbon taxes, the environment, agrarianism, and indigenous peoples.

The General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia has determined the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections (Pilpres) participants, namely the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md. serial number 3.

The KPU has also set a campaign period from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024, then the voting schedule will be on February 14, 2024.
