Handling Landslide Potential, West Sulawesi Provincial Government Asks For Private Assistance

MAMUJU - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) of West Sulawesi Province (Sulbar) requested the assistance of private company PT Bukaka Group to deal with landslides.

"The landslide has the potential to occur in the rainy season, especially in the mountainous areas of Mamuju Regency, so we must be aware of it," said Head of the Public Works and Housing Office of West Sulawesi Province, Rachmad, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, January 14.

He said that his party had asked PT Bukaka's private company for help in deploying heavy equipment when the landslide occurred to close the village road.

According to him, PT Bukaka has been building roads and bridges to Kalumpang District to realize its efforts to build a hydroelectric power plant (PLTA).

"PT Bukaka has expressed its willingness to help the government by deploying heavy equipment when landslides occur in areas that have the potential to be affected by disasters due to the rainy season, such as in Kalumpang District," he said.

He also said that the government is trying to get investors, the public and other parties to be able to establish communication and collaboration to overcome regional problems such as this disaster.

A week earlier, landslide material closed access to village roads covering four villages in Kalumpang District which are about 100 kilometers from Mamuju, the capital of West Sulawesi Province.

The four villages whose roads were covered by landslides due to heavy rains were Karataun Village, Batuisi Village, Lasa Village and Salumakki Village, Kalumpang District, Mamuju Regency.

"The West Sulawesi Provincial PUPR Service has deployed heavy equipment and succeeded in cleaning the village road which was covered by landslides, so that people can return to their activities," he said.
