PVMBG Urges East Flores Residents To Beware Of Lewotobi Eruption Falls

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) appealed to residents to be aware of the potential for lava avalanches from the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"Be aware of avalanches to the northeast with a sliding distance of approximately three kilometers," said Head of the Center for Volcano Monitoring and Mitigation of the Land Movement for the Nusa Tenggara Region of Zakarias Ghele Raja in WulanggitangFlores Timur as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 13.

Mount Lewotobi Men experienced six eruptions with a height of 700 to 1,500 meters in the range from 06.00 to 12.00 WITA.

The eruption today produced white and gray smoke accompanied by a moderately strong roar.

Zakarias explained that the recommendations issued as a measure to anticipate disasters on mountains with Level IV or Alert status are still the same.

The public is asked to stay away from areas that are within a radius of four kilometers from the eruption center, namely Dulipali Village in Ile Bura District.

Similar bans were also given to sectoral areas five kilometers to the northwest-north and northeast, such as Nobo and Nujulen Villages in Ile Bura District.

In the event of ash rain, Zakarias advised the public to wear masks and eye protection.

He also reminded the potential for rain lava in rivers that originate at the top of the mountain in the event of high-intensity rain.

"PVMBG always coordinates to provide this information to the public," he said.
