JAKARTA - United States Central Command CENTCOM said the Yemeni Houti group had launched 27 attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea since November 19, 2023.

Iran-backed Houthi armed groups launched an anti-ship ballistic missile from its Yemeni territory into international shipping routes in the Red Sea, according to the US military.

On January 11 at around 02.00 a.m. Sana'a time, Iran-backed Houthi group fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from a Houthi-controlled region in Yemen to an international shipping route in Aden Bay, CENTCOM said on X.

The commercial ship saw the Houthi missile fall into the sea without causing any casualties or damage, he said.

"This is Houthi's 27th attack on international shipping since November 19," CENTCOM said.

The attack came one day after the United Nations Security Council (DK PBB) passed a resolution condemning and demanding an immediate cessation of the Houthis attack on ships in the Red Sea.

The Houthis targeted ships in the southern Red Sea and warned they would attack all ships bound for Israel.

They said the attack was aimed at supporting Palestinians who were facing Israel's aggression and blockade in Gaza.

The Red Sea is one of the most frequently used sea routes in the world for oil and fuel shipments.

Last month, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the formation of a multinational mission to counter the Houthis' attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea.
