Hundreds Of Illegal Thrifting Clothing And Shoes Are Secured In Riau

SIAK - Police secured a truck carrying hundreds of sacks containing used clothes and shoes or Thrifting from abroad in Perawang, Siak Regency, Riau.

The Director of Criminal Investigation at the Riau Police, Senior Commissioner of Police Nasriadi, explained that the used goods from abroad entered from an unofficial port in Batam, then were taken to Riau and secured by the police on Thursday, January 11.

"We found 146 sacks of used shoes and 52 sacks of used clothes in the truck," he said at a press conference to reveal the case in Pekanbaru, Riau, Thursday, January 11, which was confiscated by Antara.

It is planned that the used goods will be marketed in various areas on the island of Sumatra, such as the cities of Medan, Padang, Jambi, and Bandarlampung.

In disclosing this case, two people who have been named as suspects were DBS (45), a truck driver and SS (29) who served as liaison for marketing used goods.

"The sale of these used goods, according to the government, could harm local garment factories and result in state losses reaching Rp500 million," he continued.

The two suspects are suspected of violating Article 111 in conjunction with Article 47 paragraph (1) of Law Number 7 of 2014 concerning Trade as amended by Article 46 number 15 of Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation with a threat of five years in prison and a fine of IDR 5 billion.
