JAYAPURA - The Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) for the area V Jayapura hopes to increase the number of tsunami sirens at a number of points in Papua, especially in coastal areas.

Head of Jayapura Geophysics Station Herlambang Hudha said the addition of tsunami sirens in coastal areas was very important considering the large number of residents in the area.

According to Herlambang, in 2023 his party succeeded in reviving the tsunami siren system in North Jayapura District, precisely behind the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) office, Jayapura City.

"So we reactivated the Jayapura BBMKG tsunami siren which is located behind the MRP Office every month on the 26th," he said.

He explained that the sound of sirens every month is to maintain the test for work and preparedness according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the siren.
