KPU Admits The Government Has Not Paid Members' Retirement Fees For The 2012-2017 And 2017-2022 Periods

JAKARTA - Acting Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Republic of Indonesia, Ilham Saputra, admitted that the government has not paid retirement fees or awards to KPU Members for the 2012-2017 period and KPU Members for the 2017-2022 Period.

Ilham said, the government should have paid the pension money for KPU members for the 2012-2017 period after the 2014 election period was completed.

"The 2012-2017 period has discussed and processed the proposed payment. This reward should be given after the 2014 elections," Ilham told reporters, Monday, February 22.

Meanwhile, for the members of the KPU for the 2017-2022 period, Ilham and the ranks of KPU members who are still in office have proposed filing for retirement money. However, until now it has not been disbursed.

"From the time we were in charge, we had proposed discussions and the proposed payment process. Until now, this has not been realized," he said.

Previously, Deputy Chairperson of Commission II of the DPR RI from the PKB faction, Luqman Hakim, admitted that he was shocked when he heard that the government had not paid KPU members' retirement fees, especially for the 2012-2017 period.

In fact, according to Luqman, the KPU in that period was instrumental in holding the 2014 Legislative and Presidential Elections and holding hundreds of regional head elections.

"In my opinion, this country owes them a service. Thanks to their services, the change in national leadership and the change in regional leadership can proceed peacefully and according to democratic principles," said Luqman.

Moreover, currently, Indonesia is being hit by a pandemic. Even though it is four years late after the term of office, the payment of retirement money, said Luqman, is very meaningful for KPU members.

"Therefore, I ask the Acting Chairman of the KPU, the Minister of PAN & RB, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of State Secretary to immediately coordinate to resolve the issue of paying the pension fund to be paid immediately," he concluded.
